Book Review - The E-Myth Revisited
The E-Myth - Michael Gerber
This is the seminal tract on being an entrepreneur and how to configure a business. The salient points the book covers include:
• Systemizing your business. By systemizing your business you will develop an Operations Manual made up of the various processes (or systems) that make up your business, Job Descriptions and by default a Training Manual. This provides your business the capability to: 1) provide a consistent experience for your clients, 2) allow your employees and vendors to understand your expectations clearly and 3) provides you a way to give feedback to both your employees and vendors on their performance in a logical, coherent manner.
• Replication of Business Owner, by systemizing your business you can now start replicating yourself ore rather the jobs your perform and pass these tasks on to others, allowing you to work on your business not in your business.
• Gerber makes the case for the Three Roles of the Entrepreneur, The Technician, The Manager and the Entrepreneur. He further states that while the three roles need to be in balance, typically the Technician takes the overwhelmingly predominate position to the detriment of the not only the other two roles, but also the business itself.
This book is Entrepreneur 101. If you read only one book on business it should be this one.
